In 2019, CCHS acquired the historic Farmers and Merchants Bank building in downtown Logansport with the goal of expanding exhibit space and improving accessibility to our exhibits, offices, library, and classrooms. Like many organizations, we faced unexpected challenges during and after the pandemic, which brought about several changes to the project and our operations. Despite that period of uncertainty, we’ve emerged stronger and are now moving forward with renewed focus and energy toward creating the new Cass County Museum experience. The Castaldi Family History Center and staff offices are available now for service and watch for new programs and events at our new location.

Cass County Museum, once rennovated, will feature a variety of new exhibits, including:

  • Natural history and fossils, including our family of American mastodons

  • Agricultural history

  • Currents to Crossroads: A History of Transportation in Cass County - featuring the ReVere automobile

  • Railroad history

  • Military history

  • A reimagined “Main Street Shops” experience

We’re excited to bring this expanded and enriched museum experience to the heart of our community.

The Long Home Museum has been operated by CCHS since 1967, following the generous donation of the property by the Long family for use as a museum. Built in 1853, this Victorian Italianate home is a treasured part of Cass County’s heritage and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2024, with support from the Indiana Historical Society and KJG Architects, a comprehensive structural analysis of the property was completed. Based on those findings, we are committed to restoring the Long Home and continuing its role as a charming and historically rich house museum.

While some artifacts currently on display at the Long Home will eventually be relocated to the new Cass County Museum, the Long Home will continue to showcase exhibits. These include:

  • Artwork by George Winter and Wils Berry

  • Native American heritage

  • Early settler and immigrant communities

  • The William Chick Family Log Cabin

  • The Carriage House

  • Antique toys

  • Antique furniture and housewares

  • Quilts and other period textiles

  • Traditional home arts

The Long Home will remain a vital and engaging space for exploring Cass County’s earliest stories.
